Overview

We are looking for an Oral Surgery Assistant to work at our affiliated practice, Konikoff Dental Associates, in Chesapeake, Virginia 23320. This is a part-time position working the following schedule: Thursday (3:00 - 8:00pm); Friday (7:45 - 5:00pm); and Saturday (7:45 - 12:00pm). This position is part of our oral surgery team and will at times have to travel to other offices. Candidate must have reliable transportation to travel when needed. The candidate we select must have an x-ray license for the state of Virginia; preferably 1+ years of hands on Dental Assistant experience; oral surgery experience is preferred, however, not required.

Responsibilities

Assist in surgical operations under the supervision of the dentist. Prepare operatory by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes and sterile solutions as required. Assemble sterile and non-sterile equipment; adjust and check to ensure proper working order. Prepare patients for surgery and observe patients vital signs and assist dentist during surgery.

 

During surgery pass instruments and other sterile supplies to dentist, hold surgical instruments as directed by dentist, and help apply dressings. Operate sterilizer, lights, or suction machines. Clean operatory after surgery.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; must have or must get shortly after hired
  • AAOMS Anesthesia Assistants certification; must have or must get shortly after hired
  • X-ray license for the state of Virginia, preferred
  • Experience working as a Dental Assistant, or training from a formal Dental Assistant program
